A Brief History of the Marathon Area Swim Association

The Raymond and Marie Goldbach Swim Center was established in 1988.

1990 – 1999 – A Water Ballet Program was established, later to be called Synchronized Swimming. The Swim Team, “Manta Rays,” hosted their first swim meet. New Director, Jennifer Passehl, took over in 1997, as she started on October 13. In 1998, MASA celebrated its 10 year Anniversary and offered events and specials for celebration. A 1000 mile club was established for lap swimmers. Members and staff collaborated to publish “Sharing Our Best” Cookbook to be sold as a fundraiser.

2000 – 2009 – MASA staff were trained to use an AED, which was purchased for the facility. The Board of Directors established MASA’s Mission Statement using the goals and dreams of the Goldbachs. In 2004, the locker rooms, lobby and office area received an upgrade in colors and style. A year round incentive program was started for adult members of MASA that participate in fitness activities while at the pool. MASA joined the Marathon Area Business Association. In 2007, MASA established a web page. Later, MASA started birthday party packages, added a bulk tank for chlorine, and replaced the roof.

2010 – 2019 – A new HVAC system was installed for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An incentive program started for fitness enthusiasts to earn money back for time spent exercising in the pool. Senior Lock-in Rates were established in 2012. MASA celebrated the 25th anniversary with specials and prize drawings in 2013. A new ADA compliant Lift was installed in the pool to assist people entering the pool. In 2015, MASA had a complete office remodel with new desks, cabinets, carpet and staff room. WiFi was added to the building and a computer was added to the front desk in 2016. The locker rooms were re-piped to improve heating and cooling in 2018, along with a new security system. MASA went live with Mindbody and started accepting credit cards. In 2019, MASA launched its new website on WordPress!
