ARC Lifeguarding

The ARC Lifeguarding classes are designed to teach you not only the basics in water safety but also the proper protocol when dealing with any emergencies around water. The ARC blends both traditional lecture style and online learning along with crucial hands-on training in order to teach you effective techniques to deliver prompt care to those in need and learn how to respond safely and efficiently to water emergencies. Two important elements prior to becoming a lifeguard; you must be at least 15 years old and pass course specific swimming requirements prior to starting training. Lifeguarding courses include First Aid and CPR/AED training. Certification is good for two years.  Blended learning classes have a course length of 19 hours, 30 minutes in-person and 7 hours 30 minutes online. Total – 27 hours.

The ARC also offers review courses for those whose certification is still valid (or within 30 days of expiring) while allowing you to continue to work without a lapse in certification. This is also a blended learning class.

Earn your certification to teach ARC swimming and water safety, and gain the skills needed to teach courses and make presentations to swimmers of every age and ability. Through our WSI class you can help recreational swimmers meet their goals, refine their skills and stay safe in, on, and around water. The WSI course trains instructor candidates to teach all ARC Learn to Swim levels including preschool and adult. This certification is the gold standard and provides the most comprehensive training for swim instructors. During our swim instructor certification training courses you’ll learn how to help individuals enjoy their time in the water safely – and in a wide range of ways. Throughout the courses we’ll focus on a number of key areas that can help you succeed as aquatics instructor, such as:  prevention of drowning, hydrodynamics, basic water competency, helping people with disabilities enjoy the water, higher level swim skills, stroke mechanics, starts, turns, headfirst entries, diving from a diving board and aquatic fitness training for people of any age. In order to participate in the Water Safety Instructor certification classes, participants must be at least 16 years of age by the end of the course.  This is a two year certification.  In order to keep your WSI certification current you must teach at least one swim class and turn in a “course of record”.

These orientations are usually offered at the beginning of each swim session.  You may aide for as many sessions as you like after taking the orientation.  We try to place you with different swim levels each time.  You must have completed ARC Level 6 – Personal Water Safety.
